Report: Russia’s Lukoil may expand presence in Nigeria

MOSCOW, Jan 21 (PRIME) -- Russian oil major Lukoil plans to expand its presence in Nigeria, and production of all its projects may reach 6–7 million tonnes per year, Lukoil CEO Vagit Alekperov said in an interview to Rossiya 24 television channel broadcast Thursday.

“I have met with Nigeria’s oil minister, we are preparing my visit to Nigeria to discuss our projects. We already have a successful project in the country together with Chevron. We are also a large oil product supplier to Nigeria’s market…We are discussing our company’s possibility to expand presence in the country, many suggestions are coming from Nigerian companies,” he said.

Previously, Alekperov said he plans to visit Nigeria very soon and held talks at the highest level.

In 2015, Lukoil entered a project of U.S. Chevron in Nigeria and proved presence of commercial reserves at a bloc that is jointly developed by the two companies. No details of the deal were disclosed.
